How to Use Google to Start Up Your Money Making Blog
Nov 11th, 2011 Steve Albright
A few years ago, the world of the internet became obsessed with the new concept of "web logs," or, as we all know them now, "blogs." In the beginning, blogs were ways of putting your thoughts out into cyber space, of keeping in touch with friends and family, of creating a world where people had a hand in their own celebrity.
Blogs have come a long way. Companies use them to relate to their consumers and shareholders. Celebrities use them to fight back against the media - or against each other. Some people just use them as a way to socialize, vent, or create their own widespread cyber community. Just think of all the blogs created by women who are planning their weddings in order to be seen and responded to by other women planning weddings.
And then there are people who use blogs for all of the above reasons AND try to make money in the process. Blogging has become a great way to make some supplemental income. All it takes is a little knowledge of Google to start up your money making blog.
All people who have great success using the Internet to make money - from famous marketers like Russ Dalbey to famous bloggers like Perez Hilton - have created their own personal Google start up kits using knowledge of AdSense and AdWords. Both of these programs are free from Google, and even if you've never heard of them you probably encounter them on a daily basis.
AdWords is a great program for those trying to get traffic to their website. As a blogger trying to make supplemental income, AdSense is really your best bet. AdSense is when you have Google place ads paid for by others on your website. When someone clicks on that ad, you get paid.
The ads that are placed on your site have to do with the content of your website. So if you have a website all about cooking and recipes, the ads Google would place on your blog would be for cookware, cookbooks, gourmet food shops, etc. Another way to make money using your blog is to be an affiliate for relevant companies or products.
Affiliate marketing has gotten a bad rap from internet scam artists, but the truth is it is a completely legitimate way of doing business. If you did have a blog about cooking, for example, you could be an affiliate for well known companies like Amazon.com or Macy's. If you referenced a product from either of those companies and someone from your blog then bought that product at Amazon, you would receive money. No deception, scamming, or misleading required. You recommend a product and you receive money when it's purchased.
Of course, you need to get people to your blog in order to make money from their purchases or clicks, but if you already have followers, or a wide network of family and friends that you can begin with, then you are on your way to making supplemental money by blogging.
